10/20: The Undersea has Invaded!
The TCbT2 approach to banality is a somewhat unique one, meant to reflect the unique nature of every changeling. Essentially, it boils down to this: Every person has their own definition of what is or is not banal. The boggan healer who finds true fulfillment in nursing is nowhere near as likely to be affected by the banality of a well-run hospital, although she may have more difficulties with welfare hospitals or untreated illness; for her, the neglected wound is a killer of dreams. The sidewalk artist, however, might be undone by the hospital, while seeing the lonely streets as a source of true inspiration. This is not an invitation to twink: each character will be asked to define his or her approach to glamour or banality, and will be treated accordingly. Here, however, the old question of 'is technology banal?' has been answered -- and the answer is 'only if you believe that it is'. Banality is gained when a changeling encounters the banal world or behaves in a manner contrary to their comprehension of glamour. The changeling who believes that all hospitals are banal will gain banality for entering one; likewise, the changeling who feels that science fiction conventions are hopeless retreads of dead fantasies will gain banality by entering one. It is very subjective. If you feel that your character has done something that warrants an increase in banality, please use +request to inform staff. If staff finds you behaving in a manner which would increase your banality, they will do so, and notify you that it has been done. (Lecturing the childlings on the virtues of sitting still and being quiet, for example, or intentionally destroying someone else's collection of napkin-art.)
