10/20: The Undersea has Invaded!
(Scene already in progress.)
Jeanette shakes her head slowly, looking at the guitar in its open case. "No, milady," is her reply. "Those are the only three instruments that I've played recently, and I know I haven't been... doing anything unusual. And nothing unusual about the mandolin, either. The mandolin was just to show me that even though it's... hard to be a girl when you're really a man, you can still be all right in the end," -- as she sits down upon the broken column next to the waterfall once again, she happens to gaze down into the reflective pool below. This, of course, is when the music begins. A piano, quiet at first -- something rather reminiscent of lounge music.
At the sound of the music, Ryan's head jerks up, her eyes going a touch wide. Anything further that might have been said is cut off, and she looks around, immediately scanning the area as she picks the flute up, wrapping her fingers lightly around it. It doesn't take long for her expression to look distinctly displeased.
Jeanette begins to sing very sensuously, the kind one would expect from a young woman singing in 1930s big bands. A muted trumpet provides accompaniment with her as she quietly sings:
"I was sixteen, ready to jump in bedAs Jeanette watches her reflection, she places a finger in the pool, causing it to ripple, then stands up... that's when the big band brass picks up, at the refrain:
As visions of women danced... through my head.
One little kiss, it felt like a dream...
When I came to, I had joined the other team!"
"It's hard to be a girl,
It's hard to be a girl,
It's so hard to be a girl...
When you're really a man."
Ryan's eyes only go more wide. She looks down to the flute and then up again, watching Jeannete with something resembling horror. Staying quiet for the moment, she simply goes about gawking, not making any immediate moves to exit the area or to escape the situation. She's just watching and listening.
The music once again returns to the calm lounge style with the muted trumpet. Jeanette walks about leisurely, continuing on to the second verse:
"No chance of hiding, keeping things under wraps,... as if to emphasize the rather bad pun, she arches her back slightly when singing that last line. Again comes the refrain, along with the band:
Going from t-shirts to silk things with straps,
A voice that's changed to soprano symphonica.
With nockers like these, I'll never need to call Monica!"
"It's hard to be a girl,
It's hard to be a girl,
Yeah, it's hard to be a girl...
When you're really a man."
Okay. Horrified she might be, but that pun seems to calm Ryan down a bit. She brings her free hand up to somewhat cover her face, touching her fingertips to her forehead but continuing to watch Jeanette through splayed fingers. She stays quiet, simply watching the other Sidhe as she walks around and sings.
There's a moderate bridge section where the band plays through. Jeanette smiles at Ryan as she walks casually through the shallows of the pool here, as if she doesn't even realize that she's not holding a normal conversation. As the band continues on, she sings one final verse with the full band accompanying:
"Someday, maybe, I will break this curse,(long pause, music stops, someone unseen gasps in horror -- and she smirks at Ryan at this point)
I'll be a real man then for better or worse.
It's so hard to love women when you don't look like a man,
So does that make me a..."
"... musician?... and the piano winds the song down, leaving Jeanette time to seat herself upon the fallen column, right near where she started.
It's hard to be a girl...
When you're really a man."
Silent and still for several long moments, Ryan eventually lowers her hand. She turns her head to glance around the area once more, then casts another glance down at the flute. When she's certain it's not changing colors or doing anything strange, she lifts her head to look back to Jeanette. There's a pause, and then she's back to conversational, continuing on as if Jeanette had not just broken out into song. "Well. I do hope that something can be done about this, now that we know a bit more. If you don't have anything further that might shed light on things, I'll need you to leave me with the flute and the guitar, and I'm going to go send my e-mail to report. Someone may very well wish to speak with you about this again - I'll let you know, if that's the case."
